On November 6, 2025, Ropes & Gray hosted the Sports Lawyers Association’s 2025 Fall Symposium in the firm’s London office.
This year’s symposium was the first to be held in Europe, and it adopted the theme “The Globalization of Sports,” exploring how international trends are shaping the future of sports law around the world.
London office managing partner Rohan Massey moderated a discussion titled, “Beyond Borders: Legal and Business Strategies for Growing an International Fan Base.” The panelists discussed the intersection of law, business, and international engagement strategies as teams and leagues navigate broadcast rights, sponsorship deals, intellectual property protection, data privacy laws and cross-border marketing initiatives. The session also focused on jurisdictional differences in consumer protection, legal risks in digital fan engagement and strategies for managing compliance across varied regulatory environments, offering practical insights on how to grow a global fanbase while mitigating risk.
In addition to Rohan, Chris Conniff, Erica Han, and Dennis Coleman, the co-leaders of the sports industry initiative, and counsel Clément Delaruelle, also attended the symposium.
