Attorneys:
Ropes & Gray advised the National Association of Basketball Coaches (the “NABC”) on its five-year partnership with the management team of the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets, to move the NABC’s annual pre-season basketball tournament, the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic (the “Classic”), from Madison Square Garden to the newly built Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The 2012 Classic will be one of the first events held at the Barclays Center when it opens next fall.
In addition, Ropes & Gray advised the NABC on its three-year partnership with Turner Sports to broadcast the Classic on truTV beginning in 2012. Turner’s agreement with the NABC comes on the heels of its $14 billion partnership with CBS Sports to air the NCAA men’s post-season basketball tournament and solidifies its status as a major player in college basketball broadcasting.
The Ropes & Gray team that worked on these matters included Boston-based corporate and sports law partner Dennis Coleman.
