The Financial Times cited Ropes & Gray as one of the leading firms for innovation in the publication’s fourth edition of the “Innovative Lawyers” report, announced on Dec. 3. The firm ranked in the top 15 on the “FT 40” ranking of the firms deemed most innovative by the publication. The Financial Times has a worldwide readership of about 2 million, including influential business leaders who are clients and prospective clients, and the Innovative Lawyers report, which has now broadened its scope from a focus of U.S. legal matters to encompass all of North America, appears as a special pull-out section in the Dec. 4 issue of the Financial Times.
The FT received nearly 500 submissions from 127 law firms this year, and the firm was well represented in the report, with inclusion in the “Business of Law,” “Finance” and “Social Responsibility” sections. The report also highlighted successful results Ropes & Gray lawyers have achieved for their clients, including:
- Structuring a new initiative, led by private investment funds partner Jason E. Brown, to service private equity clients dealing with regulatory challenges.
- Advising the Pax World Funds and working closely with the Securities and Exchange Commission to enable the first conversion of an Exchange Traded Fund into a traditional mutual fund. Investment management partners Greg Sheehan and Brian McCabe represented Pax in the transaction.
- Providing pro bono support for the Massachusetts Juvenile Justice Pay for Success Initiative. The FT writes that this effort, led by finance partner Win Minot, “has helped structure an initiative designed to reduce reoffending through training and counseling for men on probation or leaving the juvenile justice system.”
- Representing the New York Integrated Network on the formation of the first accountable care organization (ACO) in the U.S. that primarily serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Health care partner Stephen Warnke led this matter.
In addition to being cited in the report, the firm was recognized as a finalist for two awards at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers awards in New York.
