Intellectual property transactions partner Rohan Massey (London) and leader of the firm’s privacy & data security practice in Europe, authored an article on the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs’ reservation regarding certain aspects of the European Commission’s proposed new Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications. The article appeared in Bloomberg BNA’s Privacy Law Watch on August 7.
Mr. Massey notes that the European Commission’s proposed new e-Privacy Regulation reduces the level of some protection offered by the E.U. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which takes effect in May 2018. The European Parliament Committee report recommends amending the e-Privacy Regulation to provide protection equal to that mandated by the GDPR.
