Ropes & Gray volunteers helped to fill 17,000 backpacks in under three hours for children in need in Chicago at the Cradles to Crayons second annual Ready for School Backpack-A-Thon. Nick Berg, Laura Hoey, Neill Jakobe, Meaghan Conroy, Jim Davis and Andrew Pomranke all participated in the event on behalf of Ropes & Gray.
During the Aug. 10 event, Cradles to Crayons recognized Ropes & Gray volunteers for giving “110 percent” commitment and for overall firm contributions to the event with the Golden Pencil MVP award. Cradles to Crayons aims to provide the more than 180,000 children living in low-income or poverty in Chicago with everyday essential items, such as clothes, books and shoes.
The Backpack-A-Thon is part of the national organization’s Ready for School initiative to help children prepare for the school year. Cradles to Crayons operates Giving Factories in Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago. In Chicago, private equity partner Neill Jakobe (Chicago) served on the Cradles to Crayons Chicago launch committee and is now on the Corporate Committee.
