The Week at Ropes & Gray: A Winning Streak for Our Litigators; Bankruptcy Court Reconsiders $275 Million Break-up Fee; Three Significant Deals; Evaluating New Tax Reform Proposals; IP Transactions Partner Profiled in The Recorder

Weekly highlights of what’s happening at Ropes & Gray:

• One week after we announced one of the biggest deals in Asia buyout history, the firm was active on more dealmaking. Our client Berkshire Partners announced two transactions, including the sale of a portion of Access Information Management to GI Partners. Access Information Management is the largest privately held records and information management services provider in the world. In a separate deal, Berkshire Partners acquired Accela, which provides Accela Civil Platform, a cloud-based solutions platform that increases engagement, efficiency and transparency for more than 2,200 communities worldwide. Attorneys from across our offices, including Boston, New York, San Francisco and Chicago advised on the deals.
• Regis Corporation, an industry leader in haircare, sold all of its mall-based salon business in North America and its salons in the United Kingdom to The Beautiful Group, an affiliate of Los Angeles-based private equity firm Regent. The transaction includes over 1,100 salons, which operate under the brands Supercuts, SmartStyle, MasterCuts, Regis Salons, Sassoon Salon, Cost Cutters, Roosters and First Choice Haircutters. Ropes & Gray M&A attorneys advised on the deal.
• The Recorder, San Francisco’s leading legal publication, released its annual list of Women Leaders in Tech Law for 2017, and IP transactions partner Megan Baca was featured on the list. Megan was profiled in The Recorder this week for her work to establish McAfee as an independent cybersecurity company. Lawyers selected for the list handled deals that are reshaping the technology industry and, in doing so, have navigated a challenging regulatory landscape. In the article, Megan also discusses issues of corporate transparency and gender parity in Silicon Valley.
