Ropes & Gray has advised Sound United LLC – a portfolio company of Boston-based private equity firm Charlesbank Capital Partners – on its acquisition of Bowers & Wilkins, a leading designer and manufacturer of luxury home audio speakers, headphones, custom installation products, wireless speakers, and branded audio systems in the automotive and television markets. The deal has been finalised today.
Sound United is the parent company to Denon, Polk Audio, Marantz, Definitive Technology, Classé, and Boston Acoustics – an award-winning portfolio of audio brands that deliver industry-leading home theater and personal audio listening experiences for a wide-range of consumers. Bowers & Wilkins designs and manufactures precision home speakers, headphones, custom installation and performance car audio products that set new standards for innovation and sound quality, earning countless awards and accolades from the world's leading recording studios and musicians.
The Ropes & Gray team was led by private equity partner Elizabeth Todd, in London, and Boston partner James Wilton. Other members of the team included: private equity associate Kenan Ceylan, partner Rohan Massey (privacy, data protection and cybersecurity), partner Brenda Coleman (tax), partner Alex Robb (finance), partner Ruchit Patel and associate Vincenzo Volpe (antitrust). All are based in London.
