Ropes & Gray provided regulatory and antitrust counsel to Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA) in its $7.3 billion merger with EQT. The combination brings together one of the world's largest1 private markets firms, EQT, with the third largest in Asia2, BPEA, creating a global leader in active ownership strategies.
The formation of BPEA EQT combines the private equity teams from BPEA and EQT Asia, with teams based in Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. The transaction was completed on Oct. 18, 2022.
The global Ropes & Gray team was led by antitrust partner Ruchit Patel (London) and included private equity transactions partner Oliver Nip (Hong Kong), antitrust counsel Deidre Johnson (London), and associates Anna Pugh (London), Nick Cheung, Lan Jiangzhou and Sharon Shi (all of Hong Kong).
