Ropes & Gray has advised Basecamp Research, a London-based startup and market leader in mapping biodiversity for AI-based design of biological systems, on its $60 million Series B funding round.

The round was led by European VC firm Singular with participation from other investors including S32, True Ventures and Hummingbird Ventures.

The funding will go towards expanding Basecamp’s genomic database and filling the gaps in biological information needed to build more powerful AI models by visiting the most exotic places in the world and mining hard-to-get genetic data.

The team was led by life sciences counsel David Dowling and partner Rajarshi Banerjee with support from associates Nick Tallon and Charlie Shephard. Additional support was provided by tax partner Andrew Howard and associate Sophie Waters, antitrust partner Lisa Kaltenbrunner, and trainee Cameron Grabowski.
