In a Westlaw Today article, health care partner Christine Moundas and health care associates Gideon Zvi Palte and Carolyn Lye discussed several information-sharing and interoperability initiatives from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, including increased enforcement of rules prohibiting interference with access to electronic health information and a new “Health Technology Ecosystem” initiative from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The authors note that in light of these developments, health care industry stakeholders should revisit their electronic health information-related practices to ensure that they adopting interoperable health IT in accordance with applicable requirements and not engaging in conduct that could be viewed as information blocking.
