In a Law360 article, capital markets and mergers & acquisitions partner Tara Fisher discussed the factors driving multi-billion dollar healthcare transactions.
Tara explained that large pharmaceutical companies face drug patent expiration and need to rebuild their revenue base. The “patent cliff” is a major catalyst prompting billion-dollar life sciences deals in March across a range of disease therapies.
Tara noted that other life sciences industry dealmaking factors include major biopharmaceutical companies that today have strong balance sheets and billions to spend on the right targets. She said those monetary advantages, coupled with normalized biotech valuations and "a less interventionist antitrust posture" from regulators are leading to billion-dollar healthcare industry deals.
