In an article in STAT, co-leader of the congressional investigation practice Amish Shah discussed how Democrats are likely to leverage health care investigations if they win control of the House or Senate in November's midterm elections.

The article examines how Democratic lawmakers are preparing to use subpoena authority to probe the administration's health care policies, including drug pricing deals, public health program changes, and agency staffing decisions.

Amish noted that Democratic leaders would likely focus their investigative efforts on issues that resonate with voters' everyday concerns. "Historically, Democrats have wanted to carve out pocketbook-focused investigations that underscore the practical, consumer-facing aspects of their oversight agenda," he said. "Health care is a key sector for them to really demonstrate that."

He also emphasized that company executives should be mindful that congressional testimony "could be used for legislation that will affect their industry."
