Asset management partner Paulita Pike and Katie Daniels, director of ethics, compliance and insights at R&G Insights Lab, were featured in an article published in Fund Directions examining how rising trustee retirement ages are reshaping fund board governance.
Paulita noted that proxy costs remain a significant factor, explaining that “[t]he cost can run into the millions,” and that boards must balance recruiting directors with different skills against the expense and complexity of shareholder elections.
Katie emphasized that addressing technology-related knowledge gaps requires a deliberate approach to board composition rather than simply recruiting younger trustees. “It is important to curate like you would curate an orchestra or a team,” she said, adding that boards should identify gaps in areas such as cybersecurity, AI and technology.
