Ropes & Gray announced today that Ryan Dahan has joined the firm as a tax partner in New York. Ryan advises credit-focused asset managers throughout the full lifecycle of their investment funds, including fund formation, portfolio transactions and financial restructurings. He also has significant experience advising clients in connection with capital solutions and hybrid capital transactions. These represent some of the fastest growing areas and are among the strongest areas of client demand at the firm. His arrival gives clients a dedicated tax partner with experience across these disciplines.

“Our clients are moving fast across credit, capital solutions and restructuring, and they need a tax advisor who can keep pace at every stage. Ryan has guided credit-focused asset managers from fund formation through portfolio transactions and financial restructurings. He is known for creative, bespoke structuring when flexibility and execution certainty matter most,” said Julie Jones, Chair of Ropes & Gray.

In addition to advising asset managers in connection with the formation of investment funds, Ryan’s transactional practice focuses on private credit, capital solutions and hybrid capital transactions. Ryan advises investment managers and other capital providers across a broad range of credit and credit-adjacent investments and financing structures, including direct lending, structured and preferred equity investments, tailored capital solutions, and distressed and special situations transactions.

“Ryan has the technical depth you'd expect from a top tax partner, and what really stands out is how naturally he collaborates with all teams,” said Elaine B. Murphy, partner and head of the firm’s tax, employment and benefits practice. “He thinks like a business partner as well as a tax advisor. We are thrilled to add his capabilities to our award-winning tax team.”

“What stood out to me about Ropes & Gray is the strength of its world-class tax group and how deeply integrated the tax lawyers are across the firm’s leading practices. The opportunity to work alongside exceptional lawyers across asset management, private capital, restructuring and the broader transactional platform differentiates Ropes from the market,” said Ryan Dahan. “It mirrors the way my practice operates. I'm looking forward to building on that integration and helping the firm's clients navigate the tax complexity that comes with the convergence of credit and restructuring.”

Ryan joins Ropes & Gray from an AmLaw Top 50 firm. He holds a Tax LL.M. from New York University School of Law and a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. He was recognized by The Legal 500 US in Tax: Non-Contentious in 2025.
