Two Attorneys Recognized as Law360 MVPs; One Recognized for Fifth Straight Year

Recognized among an “elite slate of attorneys,” two Ropes & Gray partners have been chosen as Law360 2016 MVPs. For a fifth straight year, privacy & data security partner Douglas Meal has been recognized as a “Privacy MVP” for his work advising major companies in data breach litigation. The editors at Law360 noted that Mr. Meal “continued to build on his already impressive resume during the past year by not only securing favorable outcomes for his existing clients, but also by attracting a new client for which his firm has already scored a promising result.” As the lead outside lawyer handling claims stemming from the data security breaches suffered by Target, Neiman Marcus, The Home Depot, Supervalu, Sony, Heartland Payment Systems, The TJX Companies, Hannaford Brothers, Aldo, Genesco, and Wyndham Hotels—some of the most highly publicized data security breaches in recent years—Mr. Meal has become the national leader in defending companies that suffer significant data security breaches involving consumer information against the ensuing claims and regulatory investigations.

Business restructuring partner Gregg Galardi was recognized as a “Bankruptcy MVP” and was profiled for his key role in Ropes & Gray’s representation of Gawker Media in Chapter 11 proceedings, among other significant bankruptcy and restructuring matters. Mr. Galardi, who joined Ropes & Gray in 2016, noted a focus “on expanding the firm’s strength in creditor-side matters into more debtor-side matters through new engagements and Ropes & Gray’s existing private equity clients.” This is the latest in a string of significant accolades that Mr. Galardi has garnered for his work, including recognition as a “Star Individual” by Chambers & Partners. Chambers USA has recognized him in the area of bankruptcy/restructuring, noting that his “reputation as an outstanding practitioner precedes him,” as he “is considered one of the foremost restructuring experts in the country,” with “a very strong track record in large debtor cases.”
