Asian Legal Business honored Ropes & Gray as a winner in three categories at the 14th annual ALB Japan Law Awards for advising a Bain Capital-led consortium in the $18 billion buyout of Toshiba Corp.’s semiconductor business, Asia’s largest-ever leveraged buyout deal. This follows The Financial Times ranking Ropes & Gray as a top firm for innovation in its “Asia-Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards 2018” and the firm’s recognition at the Asia Legal Awards 2018 for the Toshiba transaction and also for the Nord Anglia Privatization.
Ropes & Gray, along with banking, legal and accountancy firms involved in the deal, won “Technology, Media and Telecommunications Deal of the Year”; “M&A Deal of the Year (Premium)”; and the highest honor of “Japan Deal of the Year” at the award ceremony held on June 13 at the The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo.
The ALB Japan Law Awards recognize the top legal practitioners, deals and dealmakers in the international legal market in Japan each year.
