In the latest Vault survey of associates, released on June 26, Ropes & Gray once again received top rankings both for diversity and quality of life. For the ninth year in a row, the influential directory ranked Ropes & Gray number one among U.S. law firms for formal training.
The firm also ranked in the top 10 in a number of other categories related to firm culture and the professional development of its attorneys:

- 3 for pro bono
- 3 for LGBTQ
- 5 for overall diversity
- 6 for firm culture
- 6 for best law firm to work for
- 7 for informal training, mentorship & sponsorship

The high rankings reflect Ropes & Gray’s longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as to the professional development of its attorneys (the firm offers associates more than 1,300 training programs aimed at enriching practical legal skills and knowledge of substantive law). The rankings also highlight the firm’s culture of collegiality, mutual respect, professional excellence and dedication to public service.
This year, Ropes & Gray’s ranking for pro bono moved up to the number three spot from the number six spot last year, underscoring the firm’s tradition of providing high-impact pro bono opportunities to its attorneys. In 2018, Ropes & Gray professionals worldwide donated about 160,000 hours to pro bono efforts. In the Vault survey, associates noted Ropes & Gray’s outstanding commitment to pro bono service, and the way in which the firm proactively encourages associate participation.
