Ropes & Gray is ranked #2 on The American Lawyer’s 2023 A-List, an annual ranking that honors the 20 most well-rounded firms on the Am Law 200. This is the seventh year in a row the firm has been listed in the top three, and the 13th year in a row being named to the A-List.
The A-List recognizes firms based on a combination of financial and organizational factors, including associate satisfaction, pro bono commitment, and diversity. The elite group that makes the list excel in five areas: financial performance, associate satisfaction, pro bono work and racial and gender diversity.
In its commentary, Am Law stated that firms atop the 2023 list have “core convictions.” They are firms that “know who they are and what they do and do it well.”
Of note, Ropes & Gray’s diversity score increased again this year. Speaking specifically to the firm’s commitment to advance diversity, Julie Jones, chair, told The American Lawyer that advancing diversity requires intentionality and focus: “You need to do 100 things. You need to watch the [talent] pipeline, watch advancement, the distribution of opportunities, championing and mentoring efforts.
