IP Master Class: Making Innovation Pay

May 9, 2006

Some patents make fortunes, while most accomplish little or nothing for their owners.  Wouldn't you like to understand how to identify "good" patent strategies from the outset?  Bruce Berman recently edited an important new book, "Making Innovation Pay," where ten authors shared their thoughts on what separates the winners from the losers.  The authors represent a broad spectrum of viewpoints on how to make money with patents ranging from so-called "patent trolls" to the heads of traditional corporate IP activities in the largest corporations.  This new book extends the deep analysis that appeared in "From Ideas to Assets."  Mr. Berman advocates looking at what works and offers some insights from a policy and public relations perspective as to how to identify and characterize the "creatures" that inhabit the patent ecosystem.
