Boston College Law School Magazine Profiles International IP Summit

BC Law: Boston College Law School Magazine featured the Fifth Annual International IP Summit co-hosted by Ropes & Gray in partnership with Boston College Law School’s Program on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (PIE).

The event drew more than 150 lawyers and business executives from technology and life sciences companies, academia, judiciary and government that gathered to examine complex legal issues facing companies operating on a global scale, and featured 35 speakers.

The article noted that the summit’s panels ran the gamut of subjects, from emerging global trends in IP to the challenges seen by general counsel from five Boston area companies, including a dynamic panel on the “Evolution of FinTech: Are Regulation and Law Keeping Up?” moderated by summit co-chair Professor David Olson, faculty director of PIE that included summit co-chair and Ropes & Gray IP transactions partner Regina Sam Penti and asset management partner Melissa Bender. The panel addressed topics including how banks and other financial institutions are managing global money transfers in the age of blockchain and the debate over whether cryptocurrencies should be considered commodities or a securities.

Litigation & enforcement partner Ama Adams, IP transactions partner and practice co-chair Melissa Rones, IP litigation partner Sam Brenner, mergers & acquisitions partner Chris Comeau, litigation & enforcement partner Samer Musallam and IP transactions associate Raj Banerjee also spoke at the event.
