Ropes & Gray is saddened to announce that Lawrence D. (Larry) Bragg III, a recently retired longtime partner in the firm’s finance group, died Jan. 1, 2011 after a long illness. He was 62.
Mr. Bragg retired in September 2010 after a 31-year career at the firm. He was formerly head of the corporate department and leader of the municipal finance practice group.
A graduate of Yale University and Harvard Law School, Mr. Bragg first worked for Ropes & Gray as a summer associate in 1973. He returned to the firm in 1979 and was promoted to partner in 1983.
An expert in public finance, Mr. Bragg played a key role advising public agencies on the financing aspects of some of the Boston area’s highest-profile public works projects, including the “Big Dig,” the Logan Airport reconstruction, and the cleanup of Boston Harbor. He also served as bond counsel to the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) and was a leading expert on financings for Native American tribes.
“Larry was the consummate professional, an exceptional lawyer, a true gentleman, and a loyal friend who was admired and revered at every level at Ropes & Gray,” said Brad Malt, chairman of Ropes & Gray. “For three decades, Larry was something of an institution at the firm. He will be dearly missed.”
Mr. Bragg is survived by his wife, Janet, and their three children, Noah, Eleanor and Caroline.
A memorial service was held Jan. 26.
