Julie Jones Named to The American Lawyer’s List of Top 45 Women Lawyers Under 45

Julie Jones, co-leader of Ropes & Gray’s securities & public companies practice, was featured as one of the top young women lawyers in The American Lawyer’s “45-under-45” list.

The article in the January 2011 issue cites Jones as a “preternaturally coolheaded negotiator” with an “encyclopedic” knowledge of securities and M&A case law.

According to The American Lawyer, Jones’s strong relationships with female GCs have been key to her success.

"It's sometimes easier to develop a personal relationship with female clients," Jones told The American Lawyer. “There is a natural tendency for women to share personal details in the spaces between substantive legal discussions.”

In November 2010, Jones was named The American Lawyer’s “Dealmaker of the Week” for advising  TPG on its $3 billion buyout of retailer J. Crew Group, Inc., with Leonard Green & Partners, L.P.

Jones worked on several high-profile deals in 2010, including representing:

• LPL Financial, the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer network that was owned by TPG and Hellman & Friedman, in its IPO;
• Thomas H. Lee Partners in its $1.1 billion acquisition of inVentiv Health, Inc., a pharmaceutical services provider;
• Bain Capital Partners LLC in its $1.8 billion acquisition of The Gymboree Corporation;
• Thomas H. Lee in its proposed acquisition of CKE Restaurants, owner of Carl's Jr. and Hardee's, a bid ultimately topped by Apollo Management; and
• TPG in its bid for the Extended Stay hotel chain.
