Ropes & Gray Attorneys Author Chapter about the U.S. Retail and Hedge Funds Markets in PLC’s Investment Funds Handbook

New York-based investment management partner Bryan Chegwidden, Boston-based investment management partner James Thomas and New York-based hedge funds partner Sarah Davidoff wrote the U.S. chapter for the Practical Law Company (PLC) Investment Funds Handbook 2011, a Q&A guide to investment funds law.

The chapter provides a high-level overview of investment funds in the United States, examining both retail funds and hedge funds. The authors cover areas including market activity; legislation and regulation; marketing; requirements for managers and operators; general restrictions and requirements; tax; and upcoming reform.

The investment management and hedge fund practices at Ropes & Gray are among the largest and most diversified of any U.S. law firm. The principal focus is the representation of investment companies, investment advisers, hedge fund sponsors and purchasers of derivatives and commodities instruments. Approximately 150 Ropes & Gray lawyers devote all or a significant portion of their time to the investment management and hedge fund area.
