Brien O’Connor Featured as Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s “Lawyer of the Year”

Government enforcement partner and co-leader of the practice, Brien O’Connor was featured as a “2012 Lawyer of the Year” in a profile published in the January 21 issue of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. In the profile, Brien comments on Ropes & Gray’s defense of client Stryker Biotech in a high-profile federal fraud case involving alleged off-label marketing.

Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly writes, “Few criminal defense lawyers ever give an opening statement that delivers a knockout blow. But Boston attorney Brien T. O’Connor did exactly that in a high-profile federal fraud case last year.” Discussing the impact of the Stryker case on the Department of Justice’s efforts to crack down on off-label promotion, Brien notes that “there’s a big difference between fraudulent conduct and misdemeanor off-label promotion. The rules [regarding] off-label promotion are very complex and difficult to follow.”
