On May 16, New York-based business & securities litigation partner Bob Fischler and Boston-based business & securities litigation partner Randy Bodner presented on “Private Securities Actions in the United States” hosted by the Sichuan Regulatory Bureau of China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). The CSRC is the equivalent to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in China.

This seminar provided an introduction to remedies available to U.S. securities investors, including private class actions, shareholder derivative actions, arbitration and mediation, and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of such actions.

As an effort of the CSRC to explore innovative solutions to protecting investors’ rights, this seminar was aimed at giving attendees an overall understanding of the protections afforded to investors by the U.S. system and helping them learn from the experience of a more mature market.

The attendees were mainly local securities attorneys and business people. The attendees were able to interact directly with the speakers through question-and-answer sessions conducted in both English and Chinese. Feedback from the seminar was overwhelmingly positive.

Ropes & Gray’s securities litigation practice is one of the strongest in the United States and growing internationally, including on-the-ground securities litigation capabilities in China.
