Attorneys:

Andrew J. Dale, a Chambers-ranked litigator with qualifications to practice in Hong Kong, England and Wales, has joined Ropes & Gray as a partner in the firm’s business & securities litigation practice, resident in Hong Kong.

Mr. Dale joins Ropes & Gray in Hong Kong from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where his practice has bridged Hong Kong court litigation, arbitration and government investigations. Given his qualifications to practice in Hong Kong, England and Wales, Mr. Dale’s skills will immediately add depth to Ropes & Gray’s on-the-ground civil litigation capabilities in Hong Kong, and will support the firm’s expanding litigation practices on key anti-corruption and complex litigation matters.

“Andrew is an outstanding attorney with 13 years of practice experience in Hong Kong. He understands the nuances of working with Asian companies and employees in multifaceted litigation and enforcement matters,” said Ropes & Gray managing partner David Chapin. “We are delighted to add Andrew to our firm.”

Recognized in both Chambers Asia-Pacific and Chambers Global for his regional anti-corruption and international investigations work, Mr. Dale’s practice includes litigation, arbitration and corporate investigation matters. Among other representations, Mr. Dale has:

  • represented a U.S. listed company relating to various accounting issues in its Asian operations;
  • advised a Hong Kong-listed company subject to an SEC investigation; and
  • acted for a Hong Kong-listed manufacturer in a high profile dispute relating to the alleged use of confidential information and conspiracy to injure the client’s business;
  • acted for a New York based investment fund relating to a US$200m real estate investment involving HKIAC arbitration and settled by mediation.

In November 2014, Ropes & Gray elevated Katherine Wang to partner in its life sciences regulatory practice.

Practicing in Hong Kong since 2001, Mr. Dale moved to Asia as an associate with Lovells (now Hogan Lovells) after having spent four years in the firm’s London office. In 2007, after having worked for Paul Hastings, he joined Orrick, where he was subsequently promoted to partner in 2010. He earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Leicester and obtained a Diploma in Legal Practice from the York College of Law of England and Wales.

“The attorneys at Ropes & Gray are committed to the growing needs of their clients in Asia, and they are globally regarded for their level of counsel and expertise in complex international litigation and enforcement matters,” Mr. Dale said. “It’s an honor and a privilege to work with such respected and outstanding individuals.”
