Matthew Posthuma Joins Ropes & Gray as Partner in the Private Investment Funds Practice in Chicago

Ropes & Gray LLP announced today that Matthew Posthuma has joined its private investment funds practice in Chicago as a partner.

Mr. Posthuma brings extensive knowledge of the private investment fund landscape in the United States and Latin America, with a particularly strong focus on real estate funds. His arrival further enhances the firm’s highly regarded and sophisticated asset management practice, which serves many of the largest and best-known investment management sponsors and investors in the world. Ropes & Gray consistently ranks at the top of Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst for private equity fund activity and in 2014 was named “Law Firm of the Year” for private funds / hedge funds by U.S. News & World Report.  

The addition of Mr. Posthuma also brings the firm’s partner count to 12 in the Chicago office, which has grown from just three lawyers in 2008 to more than 60 in 2015. 

Mr. Posthuma joins Ropes & Gray from Mayer Brown LLP. He focuses his practice on the formation of private investment funds and other transactions involving real estate companies, asset managers and financial institutions worldwide. He handles open- and closed-end funds with varying investment strategies, including real estate, private equity, infrastructure, debt, hedge, global and foreign country funds. He has a particular specialty in representing Latin American sponsors. 

Mr. Posthuma also has significant experience in a wide range of corporate and securities transactions, such as joint ventures, separate accounts, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital investments. He has been recognized as a recommended attorney by Legal 500 USA and Legal 500 Latin America.

Mr. Posthuma received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and holds an A.B. with highest distinction in mathematics and economics from the University of Michigan.
