Global law firm Ropes & Gray today announced the arrival of Ruchit Patel, the first antitrust partner at the firm’s London office.

Ruchit joins from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and brings to Ropes & Gray first-rate UK and EU-competition law expertise in contentious and non-contentious matters. Ruchit has experience advising some of the largest companies in the world on matters before the European Commission, UK Competition and Markets Authority, UK sectoral regulators, UK High Court, and UK Competition Appeal Tribunal. He also has significant experience advising clients on antitrust law matters in Asia.

His clients include technology, financial services, private equity, and healthcare companies, among others.

London managing partner Mike Goetz commented on the appointment:

“We are delighted to welcome Ruchit to Ropes & Gray. His experience is invaluable to the firm’s expansion in London. Clients have demonstrated a clear desire for the London office to have competition law expertise and the addition of Ruchit really rounds out our European practice. He’s already played a critical role in establishing a top-flight antitrust practice in London and is a real find among antitrust lawyers. I am certain our clients will agree.”

Chair of Ropes & Gray’s antitrust practice Mark Popofsky commented:

“Ruchit’s arrival is an important step in the global expansion of our antitrust practice, which already extends to major Asian economies and now expands into Europe and India. We could not be prouder to introduce our clients to Ruchit, whose well-recognized EU and Indian competition law expertise will be of great value.”

Ruchit Patel added:

“Ropes & Gray has developed an exceptional antitrust team in the United States and Asia. And its growth in London in a short period of time has been impressive. It’s a tremendous privilege and incredibly exciting to complement the antitrust team with EU law expertise and to be part of a London office with a clearly defined growth strategy.”

In August 2015, experienced competition partner and former FTC trial attorney Chong Park joined the firm’s antitrust practice in Washington, D.C.

For the second time in three years, Legal Business honoured Ropes & Gray in 2015 with the “U.S. Law Firm of the Year” award, underscoring the firm's dedication to serving clients in London and other major centres of commerce worldwide. Read more about the award.
