On Feb. 3, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Jane Jarcho, national director of the Investment Advisor/Investment Company examination program has been named deputy director of the agency’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE). Additional reports indicate that the agency may soon announce that a substantial number of examiners responsible for broker-dealers exams will shift to examining advisors in order to address a shortfall in that area. An article in ThinkAdvisor quotes investment management counsel David Tittsworth (Washington, D.C.) outlining that it will “take some time to effectuate the shift from the BD inspection program, to train the examiners, and to have the program up and running.” But, Mr. Tittsworth suggests, once examiners are fully transitioned, there will be “a significant increase in the frequency of [investment advisor] examinations.”
