Ropes & Gray represented Nordic Capital Fund VIII (Nordic Capital) in connection with its agreement to acquire eResearchTechnology (ERT), a leading provider of high-quality patient safety and efficacy endpoint data collection solutions for use in clinical drug development. The firm advised Nordic Capital on equity investment matters related to the transaction.

Nordic Capital private equity funds have invested in mid-market companies primarily in the Nordic region since 1989. The planned ERT acquisition is through Nordic Capital’s most recent fund, Nordic Capital Fund VIII, which has EUR 3.5 billion in committed capital, principally provided by international institutional investors such as pension funds.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa., ERT simplifies and digitalizes complex clinical trial experience and procedures. It has deep scientific, therapeutic and regulatory experience from over 8,500 clinical studies involving more than 2.7 million patients in 119 countries and has supported over 50 percent of all new drug approvals in the past three years.

Financial terms of the transaction, announced March 8, were not disclosed. Completion of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

The London-based Ropes & Gray team included private equity partner John Newton, private investment funds partner Matthew Judd and private equity associates Elizabeth Todd and Shona Ha.
