Global law firm Ropes & Gray has promoted hedge funds attorney Melissa Bender (San Francisco) to counsel.

Ms. Bender advises hedge funds and other private funds on all aspects of their business, with a focus on fund formation and regulatory compliance matters. Recent fund formations include innovative hybrid vehicles as well as more traditional hedge fund structures. She regularly assists her clients in negotiating various contractual arrangements, such as side letters with investors, administrator and other service provider agreements, and placement agent agreements. Melissa also has extensive experience in representing U.S. and international institutional and other investors (including endowments, funds of funds, private foundations and family offices) in connection with their investments in private funds.

In January, the firm promoted six attorneys who work within leading practices at the firm, including private equity, intellectual property transactions, securities & shareholder litigation, and the private client group, to counsel.
