The Week at Ropes & Gray: A Trans-Atlantic Tech Deal; A Former SEC Lawyer Joins the Firm; The Enforcement Landscape; Pro Bono Recognition

Weekly highlights of what’s happening at Ropes & Gray:  

• In cross-border tech deal news, a London-based Ropes & Gray team represented Ensono, a leading IT solutions provider based in greater Chicago, Ill., in its acquisition of UK-based Attenda, a pure-play provider of critical applications and hybrid IT managed services.
• The evolving enforcement landscape continues to be top-of-mind for many global companies and their compliance officers. To help identify critical areas, Ropes & Gray hosted a seminar in New York featuring government attorneys, in-house counsel and private practitioners. In a new video, Eva Carman, co-chair of the firm’s securities & futures enforcement group and one of the seminar speakers, discusses how to navigate the SEC’s private equity and hedge fund exams.
• Ropes & Gray was honored for its pro bono record by Law360, which named the firm a “Pro Bono Firm of the Year.” The firm’s lawyers dedicated an average of more than 100 hours to pro bono work in 2015. Highlights: arguing the landmark marriage equality case at the U.S. Supreme Court and reaching a historic settlement in a Rikers Island jails reform case in New York. • Coming up: The Boston Foundation, Boston College, and Ropes & Gray will host the second day-long Leading by Example conference on the latest developments and best practices in charitable giving in Boston on Oct. 20. The conference will provide a forum for professional advisors, family office leaders, non-profit professionals and donors to share their experiences, review recent developments, discuss best practices, learn from other experts and express their passion for philanthropy.
