Weekly highlights of what’s happening at Ropes & Gray:

  • Two leaders in the packaging industry sealed a sizable deal this week: Multi Packaging Solutions was sold to WestRock Company in a transaction valued at $2.28 billion. A cross-practice team from Ropes & Gray advised Multi Packaging Solutions, a global provider of print-based packaging solutions, on the transaction.
  • And in more deal news, this week San Francisco-based private equity firm Golden Gate Capital, steered by Ropes & Gray, announced that it would acquire the Bob Evans Restaurant business from Bob Evans Farms, including more than 500 locations across 18 states, for half a billion dollars.
  • The last few years have seen a proliferation of new supply chain-focused regulations, a trend that isn’t likely to abate any time soon. This alert covers the supply chain compliance developments in 2017 that should be on the radars of legal and compliance professionals.
  • What impact could the new Trump administration have on the federal judiciary, including the Supreme Court?  Partner Doug Hallward-Driemeier and counsel Justin Florence from our business and securities litigation practice offer their perspectives on what might lie ahead.
  • This week, Ropes & Gray continues its fight against LGBT discrimination, joining with the National Center for Lesbian Rights to file for a preliminary injunction preventing the enforcement of Utah laws that restrict discussions in support of homosexuality in public schools. “These laws violate our most basic constitutional values—that every citizen has equal worth, and that the State cannot restrict what people can say about important issues in public discourse,” said partner Doug Hallward-Driemeier.
  • In New York City, approximately 1.4 million people struggle to put food on the table, relying on soup kitchens and food pantries for their next meal. To help in the fight against hunger, Ropes & Gray volunteers visited the Food Bank's warehouse in the Bronx, packing nearly 4,000 pounds of food, baby products, household items and other critical donations for New Yorkers in need.
