Ropes & Gray Attorney Recognized by LAF Chicago for Pro Bono Service
Private equity associate James C. Davis (Chicago) was honored by LAF Chicago (formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago) as a Volunteer of the Year during LAF’s 7th annual social, held on Feb. 23. The annual ceremony recognizes volunteers who have made outstanding contributions in providing non-criminal pro bono legal services to LAF’s disadvantaged and low-income clients across Cook County, Chicago.
In 2016, more than 1,550 attorneys, paralegals, summer associates and other professionals at Ropes & Gray donated more than 134,000 hours to pro bono matters.
For over 50 years, LAF has provided free legal aid. In a single year, LAF has:
- assisted more than 1,600 families whose homes were in foreclosure;
- prevented 6,400 people from losing their homes by fighting unfair evictions or saving subsidized housing vouchers;
- helped more than 9,000 women and children begin new lives free from abuse, thanks to orders of protection, child custody, child support, divorce and other support LAF obtained for them.
