Private equity associate James C. Davis (Chicago) was honored by LAF Chicago (formerly the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago) as a Volunteer of the Year during LAF’s 7th annual social, held on Feb. 23. The annual ceremony recognizes volunteers who have made outstanding contributions in providing non-criminal pro bono legal services to LAF’s disadvantaged and low-income clients across Cook County, Chicago.

In 2016, more than 1,550 attorneys, paralegals, summer associates and other professionals at Ropes & Gray donated more than 134,000 hours to pro bono matters.

For over 50 years, LAF has provided free legal aid. In a single year, LAF has:

  • assisted more than 1,600 families whose homes were in foreclosure;
  • prevented 6,400 people from losing their homes by fighting unfair evictions or saving subsidized housing vouchers;
  • helped more than 9,000 women and children begin new lives free from abuse, thanks to orders of protection, child custody, child support, divorce and other support LAF obtained for them.
