Health Care Partner Addresses U.S. Health Care Reform on CBS Radio

Health care partner Tom Bulleit (Washington, D.C.) was featured in a June 23 CBS Radio News broadcast and an eight-minute podcast on flagship station WCBS-AM New York on the topic of American health care reform.

Mr. Bulleit commented on how the House of Representatives’ American Health Care Act (AHCA) of 2017 would change the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). His remarks include an explanation of how the AHCA could change the mandatory coverage given by Obamacare to people with pre-existing health conditions, such as diabetes and pregnancy. Under the so-called MacArthur amendment, states could obtain waivers that would allow insurers to charge higher premiums to those with pre-existing conditions.

In the podcast, Mr. Bulleit also discusses the state of U.S. Senate and House Republican healthcare reform and the impact of the AHCA bill on health insurance payors, healthcare providers, drug and medical device manufactures and individuals.

While the U.S. Senate’s more recently-introduced discussion draft alternative, the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA), would make changes to the AHCA, the BCRA is better thought of as a “tweak” rather than a re-write of the AHCA. As a result, his remarks remain pertinent to the ongoing health care reform efforts.
