Health care associate Jennifer Romig (Chicago) was quoted in a Mar. 1 Healthcare Risk Management article that examines photography regulations in health care settings that are often difficult to control and can lead to HIPAA violations if not monitored.

Ms. Romig explains that it is a best practice to obtain consents from patient before taking, using or disclosing any photographs of patients, even when not strictly required under HIPAA. Many medical centers struggle to police non-staff (patient and family member) photography effectively.
