Weekly highlights of what’s happening at Ropes & Gray:

  • Sept. 15 marked the 10th anniversary of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. A recent article in The Deal titled “The Great Rollback” looked back at the status of rules and laws written in the aftermath of the financial crisis, particularly the Dodd-Frank Act, to get a sense of how prepared Washington is for a future credit crunch. The piece included comments from Ropes & Gray investment management partner Mark Nuccio.
  • Over the last 50 years, philanthropic giving in the United States has grown to $410 billion, representing a tremendous increase in generosity. Today, institutions and donors continue to adjust to changes in the philanthropic market, which have been accelerated by the emergence of new models for giving and revisions to the U.S. tax code. On Oct. 4, The Boston Foundation, Boston College and Ropes & Gray will host a daylong conference on the latest developments and best practices in charitable giving.
