Practices: Health Care, Life Sciences, Health Privacy & Security, Clinical Research, Digital Health, China Life Sciences

Health care partner Mark Barnes (Boston), health care counsel Valerie Bonham (Washington, D.C.) and health care associate Nick Wallace (San Francisco) co-authored a Bloomberg Law article published on July 23. The article examines expanded regulatory oversight and enforcement efforts around foreign influence in U.S. funded research.

The authors explain that the U.S. government is concerned that certain research investigator practices are a conduit for federally funded intellectual property to be transferred to foreign countries. The article analyzes the governing law for the areas of concern that the National Institutes of Health has examined in research grants, potential financial conflict of interest issues, strategies for responding to inquiries from NIH and other federal research funders, and risk management best practices for universities, academic medical centers and other organizations receiving federal research funding.
