Ropes & Gray Advises Manulife Investment Management on $1.5 Billion Private Equity Fund

Ropes & Gray advised Manulife Investment Management on Manulife Private Equity Partners, L.P. (MPEP or the Fund), which announced its close on Jan. 9 with approximately $1.5 billion in commitments.

MPEP is the first fund-of-funds product raised by Manulife Investment Management's Private Markets group as part of its ongoing effort to provide specialized asset management solutions for global investors.

Manulife Investment Management is the global wealth and asset management segment of Manulife Financial Corporation. Through its global Private Equity and Credit team, Manulife invests in private equity funds on a primary and secondary basis, co-investments, and private credit securities (junior and senior financing) typically in collaboration with a broad array of leading general partners.

The Ropes & Gray team advising on MPEP was led by asset management partner and buyout and growth equity funds team co-leader Debra Lussier, and included tax partner Elaine Murphy, asset management associates Zakk Wedemeyer, Marilyn Li, April Herleikson and Kyung Paiktax associates Gordon Bourjaily and Sarah Reilly and associate Jay Yi.
