Chicago litigator Timothy Farrell has been named by Chicago Lawyer and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin to the Class of 2019: 40 Under Forty Illinois Attorneys to Watch. The award recognizes the 40 most talented attorneys practicing in Illinois. Farrell, who received nominations from in-house counsel at several clients and other outside lawyers, was selected by the Law Bulletin from a pool of roughly 1,500 nominees.

The Law Bulletin’s profile on Farrell features clients lauding Tim for his “legal and litigation expertise” and “keen business and strategic judgment and creativity.” In nominating Tim, the assistant general counsel at a major advisory firm said, “I have routinely turned to Tim for advice on major private equity transactions on issues relating to litigation and related risks.” Another nominator observed that “Tim has emerged as a go-to deal litigator at Ropes & Gray. He is a gifted writer and legal thinker, a creative strategist and a tireless advocate for his clients’ interests.”

Laura Hoey, managing partner of Ropes & Gray’s Chicago office, said, “We are thrilled that Tim is receiving this well-deserved honor. Tim’s ability to achieve consistently excellent outcomes for our clients places his commercial litigation expertise in high demand. At the same time, he is deeply committed to protecting the rights of those who cannot protect themselves. We are especially proud of Tim’s role leading the charge as lead trial counsel for Ropes & Gray at a recent two-week federal trial in Des Moines challenging the State of Iowa’s use of solitary confinement and fixed mechanical restraints on juveniles.”
