Ropes & Gray Leads Secondaries Investor’s 2021 Law Firm Survey as The Number One Legal Adviser by Secondaries Deal Count and Volume in 2020

Ropes & Gray was the number one legal adviser by secondaries deal count and volume in 2020 among 15 law firms according to Secondaries Investor. The findings, revealed on May 27 in their annual law firm survey, provides a snapshot of law firms' secondaries work by volume, deal count, and strategy.

In 2020 Ropes & Gray advised on 225 transactions worth over $72 billion across fund recapitalizations, preferred equity deals, single-asset recapitalizations, spinouts and classic secondaries transactions. 2020 marks the third consecutive year the firm has lead the list of surveyed law firms by deal count.

According to asset management partner Isabel Dische, who co-leads Ropes & Gray’s institutional investors team, transactions surged in the back half of 2020 across all asset classes and geographies. Ropes & Gray highlights noted in the feature included guiding a European investor on a GP-led restructuring of funds comprising more than $22 billion in assets and 30 fund investments, many of which are bespoke fund-of-one structures, as well as an Asia-Pacific sovereign wealth fund on a series of sales and preferred equity financings totaling over $4.4 billion.
