Private equity partner Jason Freedman was chosen by Law360 as a 2022 Private Equity MVP. Law360 MVPs recognizes attorneys for outstanding achievements in their practice areas.

Law360 recognized Jason for leading complex and ambitious private equity-backed transactions. Those deals included advising TPG in both its $1.8 billion investment in a newly-reconfigured DirecTV, and in its sale of the higher-education software provider Ellucian to Blackstone and Vista Equity. Jason also advised TPG in its purchase of a majority stake in Nintex and an add-on acquisition of Israeli tech startup Kryon.

Jason led large, cross-practice legal teams on numerous transactions over the past 18 months as he and the firm handled a record-high deal volume in private equity. In 2021, Ropes & Gray advised on the most private equity deals in the firm’s history, steering 220 transactions worth a combined $200 billion.

“It was a good environment, an unprecedented environment, to do deals,” Jason told Law360. “People were, for a lot of the year, working from home and just focused on deals. The clients I work with and who work more broadly with the firm, everyone was just amazingly, incredibly busy.”

Jason’s stellar reputation is reflected in the consistently high-level of his work advising private equity firms and strategic investors at both a national and multinational level. In addition to TPG, Jason’s clients include Evergreen Coast Capital, Altamont Capital, Genstar Capital and HIG Capital, among others.
