Ropes & Gray's asset management practice has been named a 2025 Fund Formation Group of the Year by Law360. The recognition is given to the practice groups involved in significant private investment fund formation matters that resonated throughout the legal industry this past year.

In a profile, Law360 highlighted a variety of the team’s work in 2025, including the representation of Carlyle AlpInvest in the landmark $20 billion raise for its global Secondaries strategy and TPG Twin Brook's credit secondaries continuation fund, which represents the largest completed transaction of its kind to date in the private credit secondaries market.

Reflecting on the team’s accomplishments, co-head of the asset management practice Peter Laybourn shared, “we have an incredibly broad coverage across asset classes, and that really enables us to go where our clients go. We have the ability to easily wrap our arms around a fund product, for example, because we most likely have done it before, or something adjacent to it, and can help them position that fund the best way possible.”

Regarding the group’s work in the secondaries space, head of the private funds practice Marc Biamonte observed that interest in the secondary market remains strong, as it continues to provide the liquidity that investors seek.

Both Marc and Peter shared that there has been an emphasis on "opportunistic growth" for the group in recent years. Last month, the firm added partners Édouard Chapellier and Jonathan Abensour, alongside a team of eight associates, from Linklaters to bolster the private funds and tax offerings of the firm's new Paris office. Peter said the addition of the team is going to be a gamechanger for the group's footprint and offering in Europe. The group prides itself on being able to serve clients globally with a "one-firm approach."
