Ropes & Gray Adds Further Firepower to its European Finance Team with New Partner Hire
Addition of the leveraged finance professional from Goldman Sachs strengthens firm’s ability to offer complete leveraged finance solution to sponsors and investment banks.
Ropes & Gray today announces the appointment of leading leveraged finance professional Carol Van der Vorst as partner in the firm’s Finance practice, based in London.
Carol Van der Vorst, who joins from Goldman Sachs in London, where she is a Managing Director in its Loan Negotiation Group, has a stellar reputation among both sponsors and underwriters and is widely recognised for her experience structuring and negotiating complex debt financing transactions. Her deep experience gained in private practice and in her role at Goldman Sachs builds on the strength of Ropes & Gray’s existing loan finance offering and complements the firm’s market-leading high yield practice. This addition continues to execute on the firm’s strategy of providing a one-stop shop for sophisticated clients to enable them to seamlessly execute debt financing transactions across geographies and products, including leveraged syndicated loans, high yield bonds and direct lending.
Michael Kazakevich, global co-head of Finance at Ropes & Gray, said: “We’re thrilled to add a partner of Carol’s stature to the team. We have worked with her for many years and expect that our investment bank clients will appreciate having the benefit of her experience and judgment on their deals and that our private equity sponsor clients will find the enhanced Ropes & Gray leveraged finance offering in London even more compelling. Market participants are increasingly looking for joined up bank and bond capability from their law firms and Carol’s arrival further strengthens our English law practice, perfectly complementing our high yield expertise to better meet the demands of our clients.”
Mike Goetz, co-managing partner of Ropes & Gray’s London office, said: “Carol’s arrival continues to add to the English law side of our finance practice, building on the momentum created by the recent addition of Malcolm Hitching and the promotion of Alexander Robb to partner. Adding Carol’s depth of knowledge and the breadth of deal experience to the partnership continues to grow Ropes & Gray’s capabilities and expertise and further solidifies our market position as one of the few elite law firms that is able to deliver a complete London-based leveraged finance solution to our sponsor and investment bank clients.”
Carol Van der Vorst said: “I’m excited to be joining Ropes & Gray. I believe its roster of corporate, private equity and investment bank clients provides the right platform to leverage my experience, and the relationships I have developed doing groundbreaking deals, to take my practice to the next level. Ropes & Gray has come a long way in the relatively short time they have been in London, and I look forward to helping continue to accelerate the growth of their Finance practice.”
Carol will join Ropes & Gray on 13 August 2018.
