Three IP Attorneys Speak at FinTech Innovation Summit

Three intellectual property attorneys spoke July 25 – 26 at the World Congress 15th Annual Summit on Protecting Innovations in the Financial Services Industry in New York.

IP litigation partner Leslie Spencer (Silicon Valley) joined a panel that included senior IP counsel from Citigroup, Mastercard and Synchrony to discuss “Assessing the Health of the U.S. Patent System and Erosion of Patent Rights.” The panel evaluated the impact of post-Alice Federal Circuit decisions on the procurement and enforcement patents in the financial services industry, the role of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and current strategies for protecting financial innovations.

IP transactions partner Edward Kelly and counsel Regina Penti (both of Boston) joined a panel that included senior counsel from the Bank of Montreal and The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation to discuss “Identifying Opportunities for Partnering with FinTech Companies.” The panel examined the risks, opportunities, and strategies for financial services institutions seeking to partner with Fintech firms, including strategies for managing the changing role and nature of intellectual property in Fintech collaborations and acquisitions.
