Ropes & Gray Litigation Team Achieves Federal Circuit Win for Samsung Electronics

Practices: Intellectual Property, Intellectual Property Litigation, Litigation, Patent Litigation, Patent Trial & Appeal Board (PTAB) Proceedings, Appellate & Supreme Court

A Ropes & Gray litigation team won a Federal Circuit victory on Nov. 19 for client Samsung Electronics in a case against Advanced Touchscreen and Gesture Technologies, LLC.

The Federal Circuit decision affirmed the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s findings in four inter partes reviews that challenged claims from four ATGT patents related to a touchscreen technology are unpatentable based on two different grounds.

Receiving a Rule 36 affirmance is a victory for Samsung because it affirms that all challenged claims, asserted against Samsung in litigation, are invalid.

The Ropes & Gray team included appellate & Supreme Court partner Doug Hallward-Driemeier (Washington, D.C.), IP litigation partners Gabrielle Higgins, James Davis and Dave Chun (all of Silicon Valley), and IP litigation associates Carolyn Redding and Monica Ortel (both of Silicon Valley).
