The convergence of technologies used in Internet of Things devices could increase the volume of patent litigation, among other impacts, according to Bloomberg News. IP litigation partners Steven Pepe and Kevin Post and associate Lance Shapiro (all of New York) examine trends in litigation and patenting in two separate articles published by Bloomberg Law, here and here.

A Dec. 13 article published in Bloomberg Law’s Tech and Telecom Law identifies some of the considerations that Standard Essential Patent licensors should examine in formulating an efficient licensing strategy. The authors also address telecommunications standards, 5G SEP licensing challenges, royalty rate structure considerations, and the evolution of Fair, Reasonable, and Non-discriminatory terms (FRAND) law.
